Guest MPH
Hi guy's, have small question for you. I brought my j-spec tt just before christmas and was told it was running standard boost. The boost never went above 0.7 bar which i'm sure is standard right? Well i got my the car on the ramp the other day and saw that the back cat has been removed, which i thought would automatically raise the boost? Well tonight on the way home i put my foot down and the boost is now reading over 1 bar! The car is running fine, (i hope!) and i cant notice any difference in the way it goes! Any ideas? Its just got me worried thats all!
JohnA
EDIT: irrelevant since we now know it's a Mines ECU
letmeshowyou
thats weird. I swear your rear cat was in when we looked under it that night! Must have been darker than I thought! big old exhaust on that thing of yours. Any sign of a restrictor ring?
Guest MPH
yeah it is weird, the fact that its been the same since i brought it and now its gone up without me doing anything! I know thats what a few others thought as well! I didnt think to look at the time, as everything was running fine! But what exactly am i looking for? The thing is john, that the boost gauge was reading over 1 bar, it didnt goes as high as 1.5 but definately went to 1.2.

JohnA
... it didnt goes as high as 1.5 but definately went to 1.2. Look under the passenger carpet, lift the plastic ECU cover and search for hanky-panky

Guest MPH
Have just looked at the ecu, and its got a mines gold plaque on it! I've done a search and it means its a modified ecu! Any idea's if its a good thing?
letmeshowyou
yeah its a good thing. I wonder if the mines chip removes fuel cut or if you'd need a seperate defender. Anyone know? ps. still up for pod next weekend mate?: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=58784
Branners
Mines ECU is a good thing and a bad thing, good thing is its been remapped to give better performance. The bad thing is that theres nobody in the UK that will be able to tell you how its been mapped or even be able to remap it. It may have been set up to run very high octane fuel which means when you run crappy fuel it may detonate and damage the engine. I have heard of people binning the mines uprated ECU and going back to stock to give them a known setup. JB
Guest MPH
Cheers Jb. Tht is a worry, but i only ever used optimax in it and have given it some serious stick, (especially when me and a porsche gt3 had a play the other day!) and it all seems fine. touch wood! It was only the other day when i thought the boost shot up it got me worried, although it turns out i was just paranoid! Yes mate i'm still going, then i think i will take it to GBH motorsport in colchester to give it a good check over.
