Steve W
Went and bought a pair of Nokya Bulbs today. I've fancied better bulbs for ages but the best available before were "Blue"/"Vision" etc but NORMAL wattage ie. ~55-65. They ALL look 'whiter' but are in fact DULLER power-wise because they ALL have tinted glass which YES makes it white but by filtering out some of the light ! ! ! - that is LESS light, but, whiter ! ! ! These Nokya's (and they also had another make - same 'sort') are the 'same old' Bluey-White thang.... BUT, are 100w (NOT 'equivalent of' 100w - REALLY !) so the blue glass makes whiter/lesser light but the uprated power brings the 'POWER' back up to normal ??? Have fitted, and HONESTLY, the light is MUCH whiter but the 'power' is similar (I've still to test in dark - but at the mo' the ordinary MAY even look slightly more intense - just yellow) here's comparison pics for now................ (x3)........ [ps. makes it hard to compare 'cos the High-Beam always has the 'side' and 'dip' on as well - can't be arsed to take them off/out:p ]

Steve W
NB. mine is a JAP SPEC........ ! ! :- UK = 9005 HIGH.... 9006 DIP. JAP = 361 and 362 (or something) Don't forget, the 9005's only go in after a small amount of one of the 'lugs' is filed off ! ! - really not hard though. The 9006 will NOT fit the dip bulb holder on a J'Spec because the hole is the SAME on the 2 Jap lights - on a UK the 9006 base circle is BIGGER ! ! ! - you can use 9005's in the dip but they don't have the painted 'tip' to give correct cut-off of the dip beam - don't know yet if that really matters - IF I try them in the dips I'll let you know ! Fog bulb (H3) is the same - so can just buy the H3 upgrade. (now they look so yellow, I might HAVE to ) FatS.
Soonto_HAS_soop
Didn't someone have a problem with running higher wattage bulbs in a J spec, due to the plastic lenses melting because of the extra heat?? Ben..
Steve W
Not heard of it HAPPENING before but people WORRIED about it ! I WILL be keeping an eye on it of course:p (the HIGH bulb is quite a way from the plastic... the dip is closer to it's glass reflector thingy - that's more worrying ! ! - same with fog)
Timwildman
I fitted some blue lamps to my j-spec, i had to file them down to fit but, the part number of the lamps, was the same as the one on the headlamp. Anyone know why?? like you say white but not as bright. I got them from an on line company and got free side lights also blue so no extra cost So then had to order the main beams to match, and they sent free fogs to match good deal?? Terminator
The only heat damage I have seen to JDM lights was caused by the lamps being left in the oven too long. The main concern when tis was discussed before was whether the wiring would take the increased load.
Timwildman
oh i forgot about the plastic headlights. We have aeroplanes melting there light covers, cos they changed to plastic covers, because the glass ones break easily when birds get in the way:innocent: so need to be watched . Mind you they are like, i dont know how many thousand watts. :flame Dev :flame Dev

Steve W
wot piss's (sp?) me off is I used to run 4 x 130 watt bulbs on the Escort with NO PROBLEM... and BLINDING (! !) results.... AND, the bulbs were STILL only ~£10 each ! ! now, I have this modern(?) expensive 'Super'car and can't get a decent set of lights. I think these new bulbs with UK glass will be nice... HO HUM ! ! ! - save-up time again
Timwildman
i could do a class Boeing 737 install if you want. You would be able to see into next week with them, but you might have to upgrade the alternator, to a 3 phase 115V 60KVA jobbie apart form thaty i would be easy. :D
