Running rich

Ok my car appears to be running mad rich at the moment. Have known it was probably running a bit rich for a while really but not really thought much of it. Had a mate behind me tonight on the way home and he said when I booted it my car absolutely stank of fuel and there was a fair bit of black smoke :( Still seems to run ok though.

fubar O2 sensor? I do seem to be running slightly less boost than normal (1.0-1.1 and it used to be 1.2-1.3) so could possibly be a boost leak contributing to it too perhaps? My normal port of call would be CW's but he's soooo far away :(

Anyone suggest anyone in yorkshire that they'd trust to look at it for me?

In the DP.

As Pete said you need to check the Fuel Pressure reg hasn't gone awol, so put a gauge on and check the static pressure, and that the pressure is rising 1psi for every 1 psi of boost.

I would GUESS, if it's got to be a Toyota one, ~£150 ? ?

The Universal ones from people like Intermotor are fine........

...........as long as the one on the car uses 'normal' wire colours ! !

NEARLY all cars use the same colours (I think it's 2 whites/1 black/

1 grey = 2 heaters / 1 signal / 1 earth ??.......

...................if 4-wire, or less of each for 3/2/1-wire)

BUT, SOME cars use their OWN colours..... then you HAVE to use

original.

? ? ? ?

(sorry... Intermotor ones ~£50(4-wire) downwards)

Hi, do a search on my past posts in the technical section when I was running rich. I think I tried just about everything!

There is a good dignosis page in the MKIV Manual which helps to identify which parts may be at fault based on the symptoms.

I had a feeling your car was running rich last time you ran at Elvington. Particularly when it spat out that flame!:flame Dev
