Quiting Smoking

Hi,

 

Just wondered if anyone here has recently quite smoking. How are you doing?

 

I quit on Monday night this week and so far its going ok. I usually smoke about 12 a day.

 

I go to the gym about 3 or 4 times a week (for the last yr) so i'm hoping it will have a good affect with me putting some weight on. I've certainly been a lot more hungry these last few days, so i've also reworked a new diet full of protein and carbs.

 

I've tried this a few times before and failed. One good phrase i was told today was to say 'i'm not smoking today' instead of saying 'i'm never smoking again' The plan is that eventually those days will turn into, weeks, months.....

a lot of people will eat like a horse when they stop smoking and the gym may not work but will kirb it, but your more than likely hungry due to your hands not having anything to do so you want to eat, i have known a few people that have tried the gum and patches and they love em but cant kirb the eating so they have tried the plastic ciggerette you can get it from your pharmacist and it has a slight nicotine taste to it and when you feel like a cig you have a puff on that and when the buzz has went you put it in you rpocket, its and excellent way to give you hands something to do and makes you think your still smoking but with none of the bad stuff from fags ................result they are very cheap aswell

My last fag was back in October.

 

I started smoking when I was 13 (now 23) I smoked heavily for the first 3 years, and then I stopped for a while. Then personnel probs happed and started again. Until I was 18 stopped again. From then on I only ever smoked at social events. Until I met Lee., only smoked on a very rare occasion and now I’ve stopped altogether. Still fancy one when I’m out down the pub but don’t.

Cheers JamesMark. The good thing for me, is that if i gain weight over this period of not smoking, then thats great. I'm going to the gym to build myself up, not lose weight.

 

I've been reading and as long as i'm training over this time, the weight i gain i should be able to turn into muscle.

 

I've heard of those plastic fags. So far, if i've needed a fag, i've either had a piece of fruit or done 30 press ups. Lucky for me there is a supply of fruit at work, but i seem to be eating about 3 apples and 4 bananas a day :)

Wel done Tigger. Someone who sits next to me at work still smokes and when he goes out for one and comes back, he stinks. Did i smell like that? yuck!!

and stonkin yes you did smell that, now imagine if your pulling a non smoker or your wife etc or an important person and they breath deeply ...................................nice, now you got more of an incentive to quit, you wont never smell like a used ashtry again like you r work mate

HAHAHA, thats funny Tigger, bet he was impressed. For the first time ever i can smell that smell though that non smokers always talk about.

 

The worst bit of this is just habit, boredom and routine..

He did say sorry he had just out a fag out before knocking the door. I told him not to do it again it's very rude.

 

I was told that an ex smoker is worse than a nonsmoker.

i stopped a couple of years ago, it was very easy. read "the easy way to stop smoing" by allen carr, you'll never smoke again. it's without doubt the best method for stopping smoking, don't bother with patches or substitution just learn how to be a nonsmoker again :)

I quit in november last year, so a few months now.

 

Think the main thing is you have to want to stop, a real reason. (Not bad for my health rubbish, we wouldn't have started if we were worried about that).

 

I used patches, but only for 9 days.

 

Food wasnt much of an issue, I was hitting the gym hard back then and dont think I could have eaten anymore even if I tried.

 

The smell will put you off smoking again after a few weeks.

 

I have to say though, I still miss cigs, look back on them fondly!

 

Oh and did you used to smoke just before you entered the gym? I used to do this, when you stop you'll initially find it a nightmare to train.

it's true, a lot of folk think it's some american life affirmation crap, but it's the real deal. it will be the best £7 you ever spend. the guy should be a saint, the book should be available on the nhs rather than handing out expensive patches.

 

stopping smoking for me was a day of horribleness then a day of awkwardness and that was pretty much it, having a cold was much worse.

Supra Nish - yes i did used to smoke in the car on the way to the gym and also when i got back in the car afterwards. I've found that bit quite hard the last 2 days i've been training. Used to quite enjoy that fag!

Is that true? Any particular fruit that's good for that?

yes pete several fruits do it,its finding the right one, for my mate a whole carton of prune juice does it for him, but be careful it could give you a doze of the skitters

 

my ex recommended to me to try pineapple as it was the best to make .........(cough) sperm (cough) be more pleasent to her palet, so when the wife/partner is feeling a bit frisky dont have a flavoured condom just have a tin of del monte, although a test is needed natural juice pineapple of syrup maybe someone can post the results (my finacee has not reached the polite stage yet but getting there)
