jamesmark
hi guys i have read a few posts and i came accross this one that chris wilson gave some good advice i am getting a set of koni's and eibach springs on my car as my suspension is shot, but the previous owner was one that went for looks rather than handling as i run 19" 235 all round with a 35 offset all round so i have 2 questions bearing in mind i am gettin new wheels in feb will my tyres rub when i get the koni's/eibach sorted? has anyone had and experience on them or similar, i dont hard drive the car as just got it and the weather is shit and the fiancee the other question is what is the perfect for wheels and tyres balance between handling and style, size, width offset etc with the koni's eibach i think they lower the car by upto 35mm i dont mind a small sacrafice but want the best out of the car

Ian W
the other question is what is the perfect for wheels and tyres balance between handling and style, size, width offset etc with the koni's eibach i think they lower the car by upto 35mm i dont mind a small sacrafice but want the best out of the car best wheels and tyre balance is stock wheels with stock tyre sizes, although you can widen the tyres slightly to get a little extra grip. (the rear tyre is 245 stock so should definitely NOT have a 235 on the rear!) basically, try and stick as close to the stock offsets as possible, 17s is the best compromise for looks and handling (18s at a push although handling would be slightly worse). as for tyres, i have 235s on the front and 255s on the rear and they work pretty well tbh. hope this has helped.......... jamesmark
cheers it has as i was going to be going for 18" with 285 on the back but after reading a few posts well erm mind has changed i want to go as wide as possible on the rear for grip but not to wide that it cause a drag
Ian W
i think most people find a 265 or 275 tyre on the rear sufficient.

GazzaGSi
I have 255/35/18 on the front and 265/35/18 on the rear. Uprgraded from my 225/45/17 front and 255/45/17 rear stock wheels and felt the handling had improved to be honest, however I didnt get much chance to test really as I fitted coilovers the next day. I am unsure of the offset of my wheels but I lowered the car all round on the coilovers just to have a look at it (almost sitting on the floor) and there was no scrubbing, however was poo to drive - too many bumpy roads. It now sits like this: And I feel it is perfect, a little lower than stock, handles great and clears speed bumps. Im happy. Hope I helped in some way. jamesmark
thats the sort of clearence i have on my 19" see "my garage" (as at work and cant save a damn thing) so the eibach springs will drop it by appx 35mm so fingers crossed i should be fine but the top secret bumper sits low will need to wait and see i guess just called the mechanic thats looking after it he thinks it should be fine till i get my new alloys but advised me to go to someone that knows what they are talking about and wont just sell you any alloy with any offset that wont fit
lambertpig
hi bud i have a few posts regarding this. i have 19"wheels and had eibachs see pictures in my posts. no probs no rubbing good handling and grip if a bit bouncy. however i have now fitted the bilsteins and car is rubbing and handling nervous we think we have found the problem being a leaking new bilstein but until this is replaced tommorow i dont know if the arch rubbing will be cured as the bilsteins seem to have lowered the front a little more than the ebachs.will post results tommorow. sorry if my saga is beggining to bore people. Homer
Buy a set of stock 17's (they can be picked form a couple of hundred) and see what you think of the ride. I went from wide Blitz 17in wheels to stock ones and it made a huge difference to the handling. Despite the narrower wheels and tyres it had much more grip and easier to control though cambered corners. 19's will really mess up the handling, let alone those 18's/17's with wrong offsets, wheel width and oversize tyre's.
