Scoboblio
Never seen it done, but sounds like a good idea!
Terminator
I dont think it could do any harm. The Airbox can get warm to the touch so must have some slight heating effect on intake charge. You biggest gain will be from dumping the green turnip. BTW you will get a good price om Ebay chavs love them.

Ben-san
I've seen under Imi's hood - the man has done a very neat job with some thicker stuff. I'm sure he'll be along in a sec

supRo
Demon Freeks do a suitable material but not cheap, try asking Alex as he did something similar and may have found cheaper material http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=NIM14100 Ro Edit: More goodies here: http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductList.asp?cls=MSPORT&grp=MP040&pgrp=M003&tlgrp=M003
JohnA
I've got a very similar (if not identical) insulation roll for MUCH less. Try 'thermal underlay' from a carpet shop
