Bids were flying all over the place then one guy (who was bidding throughout the entire duration of the auction) hit the Buy It Now button for 7.5k. The guy calls me a day after the auction (last night) and explains that he did not mean to press it. He was happy just bidding. eBay's fault he says. Bo**ocks. He tells me that he doesn't really need it as he already has 3 cars and just wanted something to play with at the weekend. Anyway, isay that by pressing that button you have agreed to purchase the car, not view it and that he is now in a contract. Is this right? He's coming to look at the car today. I've left my alarm fob with my step dad but have taken the car keys with me to work. I told him he can view it but unless im there with him, he cannot start the car. Where do i stand on this? I've decribed it exactly as it is on eBay so he cannot use the excuse of 'Its not what i though it was'. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You get about three warnings, so its sounds like he thought it would make that price or more in the auction so did a buy it now, make up some crap and then try and offer less. I thought it went into more depth than that. I reckon he's just being a plank. Well if it does fall through i've got another potential from Leceister coming down at the weekend. Either because he wants to dishearten and upset you so he gets in at a lower price, or because he was 'making up space' for someone else's supra. ...or because he's just a jerk, who knows.... To give an example I had a fraudster that was the highest bidder on my phone, reported him etc, they replied in three days to say it was a fraudster and not to continue with the transaction etc but couldnt tell me what action had been taken. You must have the PayPal receipt, why don't you show that to eBay to resolve the dispute and get refunded? It's people who send checks outside eBay that tend to end out of pocket. Ark Posted January 10, 2006 Share Posted January 10, 2006 It seems dumb to me that you don't get forced into paying up, perhaps by ebay requiring a valid credit card before bidding is permitted. Fire148 Posted January 10, 2006 Share Posted January 10, 2006 I have bought and sold lots of cars on Ebay and unfortunately there are a few timewasters out there ... BUT it does work both ways. I recently bid on a MkIV Supra, a 96 Manual in GunMetal ... suposedly in excellent condition. Drove 200 miles to collect the only to find out that it was a ringer, probably stolen from Japan. My advice for Ebay selling is this ... do not use Buy It Now for selling large items, start the bidding very low, and only where really necessary use a reserve. Most cars on ebay sell for just below / around trade value, and quite often many bids will come in at the last 5-10 mins. Following the court route will only get you back any incurred costs and could take years to achieve. If you report it to Ebay as a non-paying bidder they will refund your listing fee, and issue the buyer with a warning, but that is it. Ebay is a useful tool, but has its pros and cons.
