CJ
I have tried loading Firefox from the icon in the bottom tray and from the .exe file in the program folder but it refuses to load. Now when I click to go onto the web IE automatically opens. I dont want to go back and reinstall in case I lose all my favourites from Firefox. Any idea as to what i should do next? CJ
I have just done a full system scan with spybot (cleared a few things but nothing drastic) and AVG anti virus which showed nothing.
CJ
I have also gone into the program files folder and opened up the Firefox folder. I clicked the firefox.exe file but still nothing happens.
KaoriFan
hi CJ favorites (bookmarks) for firefox are normally stored in the following folder/directory Documents and Settings/Application Data/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles and then the default profile folder name file will be called bookmarks.html you can copy this to another directory, or save the file normally when you upgrade/install a new firefox, it will carry over your personal settings into the new version. cant quarantee it will do same if you have major problem. but it always does for me. you used to be able to use different bookmark.html files in all versions of Navigator/Communicator and other Firefox versions. one thing you will probably lose all your Firefox history. unlike IE, if Firefox crashes it normally wipes history. Navigator and Communicator used to be more stable and you could get history back. its the one advantage IE have, you rarely loose history info. you can usually select which browser Firefox or IE is default browser. if you can do that atm. it may also reset your default to Firefox, if you reinstall Final Point: never open firefox before you copy either both the Bookmarks.html or history files. it can wipe them for good not sure if any of this helps, but its still early inthe morning. all the best Ian
carl0s
good tips there. Just take a copy (backup just in case..) of %userprofile%\application data\mozilla\firefox and then re-install. If it cocks up just replace that directory and you've lost nothing... worth a go anyway.
CJ
Well, I installed an update (1.5) and all now seems fine. I have not got a clue why the links failed to work but, as I say, everything (inc favs) are now working hunky dory. Thanks for your help chaps.
