Digsy
More camp than a field full of tents and hammier than Dewhurst's shop window. I still enjoyed it though Has anyone seen the new version and the Mel Brooks original? I'd be interested to know how the two compare (I would guess quite well since MB also co-produced the remake). The cinema was packed when I went but I fear that most people wont "get" this film because its so massively camped up in the vaudeville / burlesque musical stylee which is also subject. In places it even looked like it was filmed in glorious, overblown technicolour. I was fully expecting the "Springtime for Hitler" bits to be politically corrected given that in certain countries even displaying a swastika is enough to get you nicked these days but amazingly as far as I can tell that particlar part was almost identical to the original. Could have done (as usual) with being about half an hour shorter but I guess you can't really shorten a musical unless you cut some songs out. I was chuckling most of the way through, anyway. toyotasuprauk
I went with a friend at the beginning of December, he had won some tickets else I probably wouldn’t have gone. It was a bit too camp in places which gets a tiny bit annoying but saying that I still enjoyed it, it felt more like being at the theatre than the cinema which was different but I thought some of the music went on for a bit too long! Uma Thurman the Swedish blonde that likes to have sex at 11:00 looked really hot which helped and it was good light hearted entertainment but I wouldn’t want to see it again.
