I have had one fitted for a year or so with no problems to date.

I did wonder if my TRD cap contributed to my Heater matrix going with the increased pressure before it would overflow.

Stock is 1.1bar / TRD is 1.3bar as far as I can remember.

I also have a small pipe split on me see pic.

Do you think the TRD cap could have caused this with the extra pressure ?

Seems logical.....

Note: pic was taken 2 months before the Matrix went.

the idea is that the Toyota/normal pressure cap ALLOWS

release of pressure, ON PURPOSE, before any hose/rad/matrix

weak points 'pop'...

.....that's the idea behind having an EXPANSION bottle.... it's

supposed to expand/contract into/out-of the bottle.

it's OK to use a higher-pressure cap, but, it WILL put slightly more

strain on all the cooling system components.... OK as long as

they're all in good condition.

[OTHERWISE, Toyota/manufacturers would put 'SOLID' caps on all

their cooling systems ! !:p ]

I'm not blaming the TRD cap just, that I think the matrix was on it's way out anyway and that the increase in pressure only accelerated it’s demise.

I brought 2 TRD Caps, one for me and one for Leon. Mine was fine for 6 Months but then my Electric fans packed up( shitty Kenlow stat) and instead of the cap blowing, the entire plastic top section of the rad split in two. The pressure was amazing. The water went through the bonnet vents and covered the entire car including the rear spoiler.

This is where Leon's reservations come from. The second cap tested out OK, but by then I had a fluidyne. Stock caps go bad too, but the spring just gets weaker and you'll see bubbling in the expansion tank. Leon never fitted the TRD cap and just went straight for a Fluidyne. GReddy may be fine, and as I say the 2nd TRD one seem to operate fine too.
