Ok some of you may know that i recently put hybrid turbos on my car and on their test run one blew. (at least were pretty sure thats what it is, sounds like mark has been very busy so we are still not 100%)

The thought of putting my old turbos on and being £1000 down was really not very appealing.

Now i need to decide how to do this as i am on a very limited budget.

I cant afford to do it all at once so want to run something at low boost for a while till i can clear more mods and afford them.... prob wont be very long knowing me! lol

Oh and regards the FMIC, thats a no no for now. Wanna blag one thing at a time. So may consider putting in a restrictor ring to keep boost low if thats whats needed!

Thanks in advance for your help.

migs would require a full set up kit mate, manifold, wastegate, downpipe/midpipe, oil pipes, intake tube and filter.

be careful what you buy mate, honestly. You can always call or text to discuss.

dont quote but looked at this before i bought my kit, the rest of the kit will cost about £2000. then injectors and other fuelling mods to cope, then you need to think about ecu or piggyback etc

If John gets a T61 he will be OK with his 550's mate, pump etc

John, did you get an FMIC in the end? If so, go for a BL budget kit...and use an eManage to tune it.

£1800 for the kit with a T61

£450 for an eManage Ultimate

£200 for a fields harness.

+ mapping (Ian C should be able to help there)

T-67 is not a cheap option, you must put some decent fueling in to run a 67. You can run a 61 on 550cc injectors and use a SAFC to control it all. Thats how mine is setup and it works fine. My SMIC is shot so I wont run more than 1.2bar and wont setup the boost controller until I have it mapped. I recently got a Emanage Blue so thats going to go in soon.

If you want to go budget I would do the following

t-61 turbo

proper manifold (only go for budget manifold if you are certain you wont ever upgrade to a bigger turbo, and Im not sure Vortex still do them..)

fuel computer (SAFC (£120 approx), Emanage Blue (£150 approx)

fuel pump (not essential if you keep boost down to 1 bar or so)

aeromotice Fuel pressure regulator (not essential if you keep boost down low)

You can fit a t-61 without the SAFC and just run it as is, just dont run a lot of boost. If you run with just the wastegate and no boost controller I think that should be fine. So it can be done cheaply. Im still running stock BOV as well.

Yup - mine too & works a-ok. If you're on a tight budget, what might be an idea - if you go through with Terry / Mark .. what equipment is must have & what is nice to have .. and make a list.

That's what I did. Just to expand on JB's list .. What about an AFR gauge ? So, you can tune the SAFC-2 prior to getting it dyno-ed ?

I agree with Branners in all but one thing. Get one of Arnouts manifolds, IIRC they cost less than a tubular and are far better than the budget manifold.

As for a FMIC I am comming to the conclusion that with a T61 you dont need one, I have recently do some testing and my 10 year old stock SIMC seems to be holding the temps down nicely and thats at 1.4bar.

The MAF is a PITA if you are using a 4" intake on the turbo. Cause it's only 3" in diameter so you lose airflow instantly.

The MAF can also cause reversion - double reading and stalling due to an Atmospheric BOV.

I never fully got round this with my VVTi but the UK maybe better. Your cheapest option is an eManage Blue and use the Antistall. The eManage Ultimate can remove the MAF...this is why I suggested it.

Your BEST option though is an Fcon or AEM.

This is why we've all been saying stick with a small single. Do a small single cheaply or pay through the nose to get a bigger single and have it work.

The MAP ECU is an option to remove the MAF but I've heard of throttle and memory problems with them.
