Removing centre LED brakelight

JamesG

Recommended Posts

How do I remove the centre LED brakelight? I've just stupidly snapped the front cover in half trying to remove it.

I've just removed the trim on the inside of the boot lid and can see the nuts but they are a really long way inside. What kind of tool do I need to be able to reach them?

Quick response would be great so I can go and buy whatever tool I need and stop banging my head against the wall :(

Cheers,

James.

Thanks for that. I went out and bought a pack of deep sockets. The 10mm one did the trick nicely.

About half of my LEDs don't work, so I'm going to replace them all. I'm not sure whether to buy an aftermarket LED brake light kit and nick the LEDs from it (I might need two as there's so many LEDs), or try to find suitable LEDs in the maplin catalogue.

:p ......I've do this before! easy, you need a 'long' reach 10mm socket to get onto the nuts, undo them and you will understand how it comes out. There is a couple of brackets that pinch the LED in place. The LED strip can then be removed from the outside! Al.

Right! front cover is glued back together and it looks okay. Should only really be noticeable from a distance.

The LEDs are in sets of 4 in serial. Each set is in parallel. One of the LEDs in the centre of mine is faulty and causes the set of 4 not to work. If I short it then the remaining three glow brightly.

I'll see if I can get a similar LED in Maplins tomorrow and replace it. I'm resisting the temptation to stick a couple of blue ones in there too
