Gurgling

OK. Here's a strange issue I have with my car which I've lived with for ages but I thought I'd finally ask about ....

When the car is idling if I rev it in neutral I can hear a gurgling sound just behind the dashboard (or right at the back of the engine next to the bulkhead). In fact it's totally related to the rpm I'm doing when I rev. It's sounds weird. A bit like a couple of dwarfs running around in a paddling pool under the bonnet. Very strange.

Any ideas anyone?

It's nothing to do with the heating system (that I can tell). As I rev I can hear the gurgling. Even from cold. It like ..... rev == gurgle. Stop revving ... no gurgle.

What sort of air lock? And where?

gurgling noises is normally liquid related. if you have an airlock in the coolant system its possible that there is air trapped in the heater matrix if thats the case then your heater will not get very hot but only warm at best.

the other thing it can be is the aircon gas being low. try running the aircon system and then see if it makes a differance.

It could be gas, as my a/c leaks so I regassed it about five times over the summer but I'm not sure whether or not that's when I heard it from mine. I know exactly what you're talking about though, as I remember being on the phone to someone and telling them about it.

Is your a/c on when it happens?

hmmm maybe my gas is low, is that an expensive job?

Re-gas usually costs ~£40. The equipment is very expensive and there are oils which are mixed in, pressure-holding is tested and old gas is extracted for safe disposal. You could just buy a re-gas canister from Halfords but I'd get it done properly so they can tell you if it's losing pressure (vacuum actually I think it was.. the machine tries to hold a vacuum for 5 minutes to see if the system is leaking)

any ideas?

heater matrix probably needs flushing. Bars Radiator Flush works, you have to disconnect the hoses at the firewall and flush through.. search for instructions

Exactly why i asked is the heating hot Flynn ;)

Abs it good to know im thinking correctly.

So you know Flynn, your engine cooling system is also the heating system for i nthe car.

So if your car ever starts overheating, turn on the internal fans and put it on hot and it can drop the temperature by a good few degrees:thanku:
