Control Electronics for BPU

Recommended Posts

Getting a VVTi, Face Lift, year 2000, Manual, TT, RZ-S soon and…..

Looking at adding some electronic gadgets and would like some advise from end users.

I will be doing the usual BPU (Exhaust / Full-decat / Down pipe / FMIC / FCD / Management / Injectors / Fuel pump / Etc) (+the other bits to help me stay on the road). I would like to end up woth around the 400-500bhp mark with supplementing products to make it work properly, but the first thing is going to be an alarm and have chosen against the built-in turbo timers and go for a dedicated one with a sensor for variable/accurate extended running.

The alarm is going straight on when it arrives and a turbo timer, so would like to start off on the right track for a decent amount of upgrade rather than having to change/upgrade later on. I would prefer to pay a bit more now rather than having to change the setup later.

I would like to have a complemented system set-up all from the same manufacturer (ideally?)

Turbo Timer

Boost Controller

Fuel Controller

+?

Apexi

Blitz

HKS

others?

Any pro’s & cons is what I’m after & whats the benefit of the Fuel Controller.

Talking to a retailer, I quite the idea of varying the amount of boost throughout the revs & gears which the APEXi seems to do (with the benefit of the air/fuel mixture meter in the turbo timer) but the BLITZ looks better and has a few more gadgets on it.

Not that impressed with HKS level/design of electronics, although I don’t know how reliable/accurate each make is.

Anything for pot, please chuck it in………

Many thanks.

:)

PS. its killing me waiting for it to arrive:(

You're a b*stard! Actually I don't mean that, what I meant to say was congrats on the purchase, you're a lucky man. ;)

The Apexi S-AFC is good, but from what you're planning you might want to look at getting something like the Apexi Power FC or the Greddy e-manage, I would in your situation.

With the stock turbo's you are looking at around 400bhp rather than nearer 500 as it sounds like you were hoping for I'm afraid.

i dont think the greddy or apex power fc have any function for VVTI control :(

u will need a fuel computer of some kind tho, if u r changing the fuel pressure or injectors otherwise the car will run rich and like shit.

Thorin,

took me a year to find it:eek:

nearly totally standard & blue - a right fussy bugger:D but i cant wait for it....... sideways to work every day:D

400 will be good to start with. going to get used to it first (try to anway)

eyefi,

are you saying the Apexi fuel controller wont work on the vvti? the only other one i've seen is hks which i wasnt keen on:(

Forgot to look at greddy.:stupid:

Are any of you using any gadgets as well? & how do you get on with them?

Ease of use / Setup ect.

I dont mind farting around when seting them up, but want easy single push buttons for different modes when on the fly:)

Cheers

v, sorry, no i meant the apex power fc ecu doesnt support vvti, i dont think it will matter to the apex afc, but yr probably (definately) best checking with yr supplier, cos the vvti is a bit different and i dont know too much about it.

u'll have to get any fuel computer or ecu set up by a proffesional with the right gear (wb02) its not something to mess with yrself cos the potential damage u can do is bad.
