Kevin Huntley
OK Guys, I know a few of you are aware of the on going saga I am going through with high emmisions, the car is still off the road but the good news is I now have a manual to work with thanks to "Martin F". The car is in at Toyota and they are trying to find out why my CO & HC are so high. They have tested and eliminated a lot of possible prolem areas and the only thing they have come up with so far is that my Charcoal canister is blocked, Could this be the culpritt? Fingers crossed I may get my car back on the road:thumbs: Thanks
Gaz Walker
I thought the charcoal canister was only to remove dangerous vapour from the pressurised (sp?) fuel tank then release it to air... Gaz.
Guest Martin F
Nope some other area's of the SFI system vent to it as well. Easy way to test this, disconnect the pipes and let them vent to atmosphere whilst you monitor the emissions. If they go down then it is the canister. I don't think it will be though. Ian C
I assume the O2 sensor has been checked/swapped out? They are the usual suspect for such a problem. -Ian

Just about every sensor (including the MAF) can be checked on the bench. Swopping out gear is a horrendously expensive process... Paul
My local Toyota 'mechanics' are just fitters too, they even wanted to swap and charge for new front calipers rather than press the seized pins out Paul
