RedSZ
Hi I have now had no braodband for over 2 weeks and have had to go back to medieavel dial up to post this. I am a computer muppet and the "experts" at wannadoo (some poor indian woman on 50p an hour with a script in front of her) just keep saying BT have to check the line. I know from past experience that there are a load of intelligent IT folk on this forum so hopefully someone can help My broadband modem is connected correctly but the ADSL light flashes on and off - apparently it means it is initialising? or something. Has anyone got any advice as I cant live much longer without broadband speed:faint:
chilli
have you entered the correct account settings? has it ever connected ok before?

chilli
well if you check the routers logs it should tell you why it's failing, most do anyway
Max Headroom
If the "data" light is flashing it is trying to synch with the broadband signal. I had the same problem, I had just moved house and it wasnt working because of an RF filter on the line blocking out high frequency signals. Perhaps you could try taking everyother telephone equipment off the line and just plug in your modem through the BT master socket see if it works, if it does your extension cable is faulty. You dont have more than 4 microfilters on the line, and/or you dont have a micro filter going through a microfilter. These are some of the things I tried. Sorry not a computer nerd just a nerd trying to help:shrug:

suprasport
do you have firewall and or virus protection there is one out there that stops you connecting but presume that would be on dial up as well run a virus scan see if it picks up something like 'trojan'
Pig
Sounds to me like the line is down. you will have to ring and ring and nag and nag good luck
MLC
I'm not 100% sure on this but sounds like it's purely the modem can't find an ADSL signal on your phone line, i don't believe it's driver/software settings dependant. Since it used to work I would say get the phoneline checked and/or borrow a mates adsl modem and try that. Had it myself last year and it turned out to be Mr BT buggered it while installing a line for someone else, took the basts 2 weeks to fix it tho
chilli
most routers have a status page that tells you things like the link status and line quality etc, it would be worth seeing if you can find it, looked in the help for the adsl model router you have? RedSZ
OK - I have tried all the reinstalling / changing cables & filters stuff etc. I even tried using different modem and different computer. nothing works. Does anyone have either a secret phone number for BT that gets you through to a brainy boffin or even better the number for BT that gets them to pull their finger out and sort my line:shrug:
suprasport
you can get straight through to there broadband dept, not sure what there number is though
Max Headroom
To get the BT engineer out you need to go through your ISP, have you tried plugging in your modem only to the master socket to see if you are getting synch. If you do try it and get the constant light, its your equipment, ie cabling or connections. If this happens and BT come out they will charge you something like £46. If however you have tried the BT master socket and the data light is flashing, normally for the first 30 secs trying to find synch then goes dead, its the BT line. But to get the BT engineer out you need to go through your ISP
