piehound
wel supralookin and carlos popped round to see my soop for sale which i might add is nice piece of kit carlos took it for a blat and informed me the 2nd turbo is poorly, well more to the point it dont come on line as it would appear on the boost gauge right whats the likely cause and has anyone got any pics of the bits i need to look at, and more to the point anyone who has been watching this saga about the 400bhp button, im thinking if i sort the 2nd tubby the button may well work or at least show itsself for what it is i have used the search doofer and found ttc afair which i just did and made no difrence , thats asuming i got the instructions right lol anybody in the north west want to give me a bit of there time before i have to go paying out lots of pennies and bothering some very busy repair type peoles to get it diagnosed , i dont mind a drive out to yours either way if your not the other end of the world, i think its something simple as the car seems to good and straight to have a major problem and it does have full service history up till 4k ago 1 thing i did notice was the dump valve didnt dump this was beacause it was stuck shut as the car has never been ragged i freed it off and now that works fine could something else be stuck that may be causing my second fella not to play ??? come on guys some of you must know the answer, and i cant see any splits in any pipes and 1st turbo works a treat
hadyn
AFAIK if the second turbo is shot it should make a whining noise at about 4k rpm when it should come online. This is commonly known as the 'death-whine'
piehound
nope no noises at all it just dont come out to play the thing just wont join in with the rest of the engine lol
Tom
When you tried TTC did you use this guide? http://mkiv.supras.org.nz/articles/andy.htm What happened once you changed to ttc was any boost produced at all? As it didn't work in ttc It does mean that a hose must be leaking or one of your actuators are playing up, I've typed out many threads lately on this now! right firstly check that you've done ttc correctly, if your convinced it's ok then change back to seq and watch the operation of the IACV actuator, this is the one at the back near the firewall, it's a gold round thing with a black rod underneath it and it is at a diagonal angle, start the engine and rev in the car in neutral and watch to see if the rod moves up and down, it should do this instantly and at the same amount of revs each time, if this is ok then locate the EGCV actuator, this is beneath the turbo housing and should should clearly see the rod from here, now rev the car again and see if this operates, it normally take's high rpm's to get this to function, but it should definately move from side to side, if these are working fine I would check each hose of the seq system, check in the faq's about this. This seems to be the now common issue with the 2nd turbo! Also when you pull the hoses off from the iacv vsv there should be a psssst of air, this would also determine how you pressure tank is and if the system is actually holding vacuum! If you need any more help pm me for my number and I'll see how I can help further!

Tom
Yep that's the one, if you can find a local supra person near to you that has a working vsv swap it over from there supe and try it out, it literally takes 30 secs to do so.
piehound
you mean swap the iccle darlek ? or the vsv in the pic ? is the vsv the thing that rotates as i have something that rotates, oh and the problem wil be finding someone near me to swap em and try is the iccle darlek likely to be my problem ? Tom
You need to swap the vsv as in the pic, and nope the iccle darlek(lol) is probably fine but the vsv's are now failing due to age and they seem to get stuck! mine would be fine in raelly cold weather, other than that it didn't work which was strange
francis
Thanks for the photos. Sounds like piehound might be having the same problem as me. I had a quick look in the engine bay but couldn't find the bits immediately, will take a look tomorrow! How much do replacement VSV's cost? Is it a Toyota only part?
