Steve
I have the same phone. I use a bluetooth usb dongle to send mp3 to mine. Works everytime. Are you sure the files are mp3 not wma.
Clarkey
Check the bit-rate that the MP3 was recorded at. If it's too high - your phone may not be able decode it to play it back. Or .. the playback will be choppy. The phone should be ok 128Kilobit or 192kilobit. Though, it depends on the codec that the phone uses.
Todd
few threads out there that might help, this one gives a good overview http://www.itreviews.co.uk/discuss/1581/4 My better half has the 500 and I found the samsung software a pain to get working but once you get it connected it's pretty straight forward. Managed to get a couple of albums on with a low bit rate (64) not the best of quality but does the job.

Ceptik
I converted some WMA files to MP3 last night by using this software: http://www.imtoo.com/wma-mp3-converter.html As it is the 'demo' version you can only convert 5 files at a time. But just close and reopen and away you go. Took about 10 secs per file. Quick as feck!
Todd
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm Dead easy to use and you can use it for 30 days before you have to buy it.
