Need4Speed Posted November 3, 2005 Share Posted November 3, 2005 What are these about? I've seen them on a Renault Scenic and a BMW Z3 recently. Must be the most stupid car accessory since jacked-up rears and dummy side-pipes in the 1970s. Can anybody else suggest a more naf thing to do to a car? 'Spinners' were originally an English invention for racing; they were used on the INSIDE or the wheel, to help with brake cooling during the slower parts of the track (before vented discs etc.), but some American said "hey, lets take those puppies, make them all shiny and bling, and stick them on the OUTSIDE of the wheel! Of course, we both dismissed the idea as stupid. NOT ANYMORE The wheels do play an important role in ducting heat from the brakes in F1...but moving aero aids are banned...having fans near brake discs is banned. I remeber seeing a Swedish super car (may have been a Koenigsegg) that had alloys which looked like turbine blades from a jet engine.
