Jspec Germany
So I've taken on the project of painting my dash, despite reading the hellish experiences of others, cause hey, I can "get her done" and I don't back down to a challenge (I'm sure I'll be kicking myself tomorrow). I'll be using the nail-polish remover method then lightly sanding, priming, painting. I've managed to remove all the panels save the door pieces. How do these come off? Also, how do you remove the aluminum looking gauge bezels? They seem to be plastic and look very fragile. Thanks.

Jspec Germany
Jake, that's huge bro. Thanks. Any ideas about the bezels? Great crayon work btw.
Nic
The bezels are very easily broken, they are held on by double sided tape, so you *may* be able to get them off by soaking the glue behind them with the nail varnish remover. I find a pen knife and scraper is the easiest way to get the rubber coating off, I don't bother with any varnish remover as it comes off easily any way, just takes a while to get the lot stripped; just finished stripping my 5th set
Jspec Germany
Outstanding Nic. Thanks. I'm halfway through the removal process. Just have the bezels to finish and cig lighter to remove. Any tips on the cig lighter? I've removed a black plastic piece off the back of the lighter (don't know if that was supposed to happen, but there's evidence that somebody's glued it back on before). Does the lighter come out in pieces? There's a black part and a grey part, then little green pieces. I've been keeping up with your progress. Any possibilities of pics of what patterns you can do? I am doing mine myself, but am very interested in that CF water emulsion overlay deal you've got going.
Nic
Yes the lighter comes out in a number of pieces as you describe and is a little confusing how it goes back together again, someone posted the EPC image a couple of weeks ago, showing how it fits together, but cannot find the thread. I'd definitely recommend getting the water transfer process done, the finish is superb (looks like factory finish) and far better than any painted dashes I've seen. If you can live without your dash panels for three weeks, post them here and I can get them printed for you. So far only done 2 carbon fibre type patterns, see images, lots of other designs available, or can do solid colours.
jackso11
I am about to paint my dash, but after seeing those pics of a printed pattern it does look good. I don't want carbon though, would prefer to try and get it as standard looking as possible. I was going to paint is satain black. Any other ideas? How easy is it to stick the film on? best method? cheers.

Nic
no mail for me.....so it there a satin/matt black finish available? Sorry I didn't realise you were asking ME for info, the mail was in answer to Andy's question. It is a printing process not a stick on film, I would need your dash panels here and stripped of the rubberised coating then I could get them coated. Other finishes are available, but I'll need to check if satin black is.
jackso11
If you cold let me know the cost for a satin black finish that would be good. Would you be able to do it on an exchange basis? I send mine to you when you send some to me? its just that I can't be without it for so long. cheers mate

It may not look pretty but the car is still perfectly drivable without the panels, provided you plug all the switches and electronics back in.
