chilli
lol well I am not, maybe piehound is, TTC will change the performance characteristics, not magic up more bhp
tbourner
Yeah but if he bought it off someone who claims it is 400 bhp, ETTC is a good 'con' for a new owner to make them think it's going really quick!

A good way of EGT-ing the engine to death with the cats still in place!
RobSheffield
ive found the switch its under the dash but when you flick it nothing happens although the way the roads are today i dont think i want it to work either ill do a search later after work for bpu cheers guys ill keep ya all posted IF its ETTC, it takes a while to empty the vacuum tanks and switch over - maybe some black smoke as it runs rich first few times you boot it......but flicking the switch in and out will do nothing if its ETTC
piehound
no the guy only told me what his wife had done he never claimed to have tried to attian the hp only what collins guys had told his wife they had done to the car, which was a bit vague i can see a boost gauge and a blitz bov fitted and a piece of paper saying mad fan conversion, up graded brakes and compresion switch to 400bhp if that helps , sorry guys in great with nissan sx's but these animals are far beyond me at the mo although i was bt like this with my first turbo car many moons ago aint got a clue what a compression switch is any ideas ? lol oh balls to the switch it goes fine as it is lol
chilli
compression switch, maybe the mean boost pressure switch (i.e. compression = boost). but realistically you need to get the cats off of it first anyway before playing with the boost, so probably best to go about this in the right way and do the mods properly yourself so you know exactly whats what with the car. tbourner
You've got a UK so BPU should be easy, you only need decat pipes and colder plugs really. Your fuel pump should be fine and you probably won't need a restrictor ring. You've got a boost guage already I assume so you're set. Do it, for a few hundred quid you could get quite a few more horses, and you won't be so worried about EGTs going through the roof!!
chilli
being uk spec you will need the boost controller of course - that thing I think you are looking for and can't find...
Steve
being uk spec you will need the boost controller of course - that thing I think you are looking for and can't find... Only if he wants to raise the boost.
chilli
well it's not BPU otherwise is it? I mean same boost = roughly same bhp?
tbourner
Decatting even on a UK should raise the boost to 1.2bar though shouldn't it?
chilli
No, only on a j-spec (with suitable restrictor). De-cat on a uk spec = no much change in boost (unless the wastgate is foobared I guess).
simonas
I've got this car now- the silver button makes the car goes seriously quick on a long stretch of road did anyone ever work out what the switch is connected to and will it damage the engine in anyway. What I need to know I suppose, has anyone else got same conversion
letmeshowyou
did the cats ever come out? If not, don't be using that switch, just in case. It really sounds like you should get the car looked over by somoene who knows what they're looking at, and I'm sure all will be revealed
wkdtime
Decatting a UK spec fully should see the base boost level increase to 0.9-1.0Bar and it can peak to 1.2 depending on ambient temp and state of I/C. Just curious mate, when you press the button, what boost do you see on the gauge?
letmeshowyou
wkd, I think you've got that the wrong way round. It would on a jspec. The UK's have a more suitable wastegate so don't really see much boost increase from decatting.
wkdtime
wkd, I think you've got that the wrong way round. It would on a jspec. The UK's have a more suitable wastegate so don't really see much boost increase from decatting. A fully decatted UK spec with a healthy engine will see it boost very close to 1.0Bar, most see 0.9Bar, hence what i said (0.9-1.0Bar), and some have been known to peak at 1.2bar (cold mornings), peak as in for a very short period of time and then gradually tail off back to 0.9-1.0Bar. How have i got it the wrong way round? J specs boost way beyond 1.2bar when fully decatted in most cases due to the fact they have tiny wastegates which become overwhelmed at full decat, hence you get the runaway boost.
