Parksy
Looking at my motor today I have realised that I have a crack (about 3-4 inches long in bottom half of the side of my side skirt. Although it is cracked no paint or anything has came off, so guess the back edge of the side skirt could be repaired to stop it from spreading anymore without the need for spraying or anything. Anyone know anyone up in the north east who would carry out work like this. Don't really want to be removing the side skirt myself as guessing it would be easier as well with the car raised up to work underneath it. Any help appreciated. Parksy
OEM plastic or fibre? Not being techicaly minded in anyway but I think it is plastic
Pete
Removing the skirt is VERY easy. Just a few bolts along the bottom and push jobbies at the rear, three screws at the front. The vent at the back then pulls off some retaining clips. Oh, and depends how it's attached to the sill where the door closes. (sticky strip?) It can probably be 'plastic welded' which most body shops can do. However it'll probably need a respray. Looking at about £100 or so.
Parksy
Sounds cool. The break is very clean though. No paint or anything has come off. How long this has been done for is anyones guess but like all faults on the car I seem to be finding it will irritate me knowing it is there Was hoping it could just be patched from the back to keep it straight and stop it from spreading without the need for a respray. Me not being technical though and from what you have said this don't look like an option.
Pete
Depends on the skill of the person. Plastic welds can fail I'm afraid. Others have told me if they're done properly then it should be fine. I have some OEM skirts that have had this done to them and then recracked. I bought them cheap and will repair them properly using some other method.. Supralookin
A bit of filler and touch up paint neva did a skirt any harm. It's an easy job to do yourself with the right tools:yes: I shouldknow, after driving across those car park pavement things!
Pete
Problem is the plastic will probably flex around the filler.
