Sheffy
Hi, does anyone have a picture of how this part of the EU/UK spec AT oil cooler is mounted on the chassis? I had a look at my MT Supra and I can't find any mounting holes in the area it is supposed to fit. Looking at the parts catalogue I think the AT has a special bracket for it that also holds the AC lines. But I'd like to confirm and see what it looks like. Thanks in advance! mwilkinson
Are you sure that's a factory part? The OEM AT cooler was built into the radiator. I thought the only additional cooler the UK/ Euro had was the diff cooler built into the o/s rear arch.
Sheffy
Yes, I also only recently discovered this, it's one of the lesser known EU spec features. It's looped into the "standard" radiator circuit. Here's the excerpt from the parts catalog:
mwilkinson
Consider me educated. I didn't know this existed. Looks like you can still buy it too. I've searched the forum and Internet and can't find anything very useful. The closest I got were these images. I've also had a look at my car, which is a J-Spec, but that shouldnt matter, and I cant see any obvious mounting points for that bracket. I've asked if anyone can help on the WhatsApp group. I'll let you know if there are any suggestions. Incidentally, is that a picture of the underside of your car? If so it's crazy clean.
mwilkinson
Also found this image from DavidP. Alas, it also doesn't show the bit you need!
mwilkinson
OK, I've found a more useful image. This shows the pipes being positioned horizontally, and not flat. This means the bracket doesn't attach upward to the chassis rail. You can just make this out in the photo. Now just need to work out what it attaches to instead.
Sheffy
Wow, thanks a lot, that's some good detective work! Looking at your last photo and comparing it to the part I have I still think the pipes are positioned on top of each other (vertically). If it's true I think it has to be attached to the AC bracket somehow. Too bad the darn hose of the battery tray is in the way.
mwilkinson
I think I've found the answer. It looks like the Euro Spec auto cars have different aicon brackets to J-Spec and Euro MTM cars. It's possible the missing mounting point is on the different brackets. These parts are no longer available. I assume your retrofitting this to your car?
Sheffy
Ah ok, as I suspected, thanks! Maybe I can trade my bracket with someone who has done a manual swap and doesn't need his anymore. 5 minutes ago, mwilkinson said: I assume your retrofitting this to your car? Yes, the idea was to use it as an engine oil cooler. 2 hours ago, mwilkinson said: Incidentally, is that a picture of the underside of your car? If so it's crazy clean. It is, I'm currently doing a full restoration similar to yours but on a lower level. It hasn't seen the road yet, that's why it's still so clean.
mwilkinson
I've noticed this additional bolt (see red circle) in this image, which does appear to be ancillary to anything else we know of in this area.
mwilkinson
Your car is looking very clean and on par, if not nicer than mine going by that picture.
