npotts
Please help me with this query!! I have searched on the site for several threads on gearbox fluid (I own a 96 Supra NA import manual).... It seems like the general concensus for the right fluid is V160, obtainable from a Toyota dealership (quite a few threads on this)... Okay, heres the problem. I rang my local Toyota dealership to order a couple of litres of the stuff, and they said that I didnt need that, but instead to get something like 75/90???? Whats going on? Any suggestions???? I need to replace my gearbox fluid and just want to get the best stuff possible.... Thanks in advance! Nick

Chris Wilson
Only if you pick it up or pay a lot of carriage for a Saturday AM delivery (probably more than you'd want to pay). I am only down the road from you. I can't get out to the carriers today, and it's too late to get them to collect now. Sorry.
Alex
Do you have the 5 or 6 speed NA gearbox?
npotts
5 speed box on the NA
Alex
V160 oil is for the V160 gearbox (The Getrag 6-speed) You don't need this expensive stuff... I'd like to know which oil CW does recommend as it seems to be something of a mystery.
npotts
I dont get this!! Toyota recommend 75/90, then some threads on here recommend V160...... Not too sure what to believe!! Mine isnt a 6-speed box, so does that mean I dont need to V160 now???? hmm.....
Alex
No you don't and I think it's confused a few people...they've gone looking for Manual Gearbox oil and come up with V160....but that's only ever been for the V160 gearbox. Yours is a W58 5speed - I'm not sure which oil to use but I would guess a 75w90 would be ok. I'll check on SF to findout what they use.
Alex
Ok so a 75w90 does seem to be the way to go. Opie oils will do a next day delivery on Motul Gear 300(?) or Silkolene Syn5(?) Gearbox oil.
npotts
Hey thanks for that Alex! Thats cleared things up considerably! Nick
Chris Wilson
Yes, if it's an early N/A with the 5 speed box you shouldn't use the V160 oil. You can use a 75 / 90 weight oil, or better yet, Motul Gear 300, which I also have in stock...When you started to talk of V160 I kind of assumed you had a 6 speed box, only fitted to later N/A models. npotts
No problem Chris. I managed to get hold of some 75/90 over the weekend as I needed it for today (monday). Thanks for the help! Nick
