SMIC, ducting and air intake...

Hi, ok apologies if this has been asked before but I couldn't find the direct answers...

 

I'd quite like to stick with my SMIC for the moment (rather than going FMIC) but get the most out of it and possibly change for a CW SMIC in the future.

 

1. What’s the best way to check it's in good condition, I can see the veins through the air intake ducting, looks reasonable to me - should I post pics to be certain?

 

2. Has anyone tried to improve the air ducting to it, looks like a small aperture, I was wondering if increasing the air intake size might help?

 

3. I have an aftermarket induction kit - i know these are not always good news and the stock air box might be better but I was thinking of relocating the filter down in the big hole in the front (Top Secret front end), would this help suck in cold air?

1. I got a metal skewer and had a poke at it last night. It just crumbled away which can't be good.

3. It would help suck in cold air, but it would also get filthy and soaking wet from rain.

3. yeah true, was wondering about this. I kinda need a cold air feed in and then an inline air filter, guess this is sounding like a stock air box lol

after a few years of salt from the roads

 

they get pretty manky

 

could be dodgy on a hot day even with standard boost

Run your finger lightly across the fins. If you flatten them, it's fubar.
