psymon
Ok guys..... I have on my TT Tein Super Flex ..... The ride is rock solid even on their lowest/softest setting. Its that bad that I can even feel the white lines from speed camera's... Im not sure whether they are past their sell by date and need refurb, in which case its bout 50 notes a corner. But looking at Teins spec's the spring rates are about 200 more then the Super Street. So the questions are : Do i just get em refurbed... and hope for the best Can I get them refurbed, and get Tein to replace the springs with Super Streets (different spring rates) Buy different shocks, bearing in mine that if going for Bilsteins etc I would have to buy new top mounts. As many comments as poss please...... Ta very much

DShox
dude you might be in luck. I am going through a similar situation with my teins so you might do well to note how I've gone about this. feel free to drop me a line on 07886001454 - even Tein UK want me to keep em informed! I am experiencing suspension thud (especially from the rears) and hear it when i hit any minor defect in the road. So what have I done so far: a) replaced the rear suspension drop links (£80) - no joy b) thought it was the wheel thread nut or worn wheel bearing - Toyota guys said nope (£60 for diagnosis) c) Toyota said the suspension was bottoming out but as they are non-stock they would not adjust the springs for more bounce d) Went and bought Tein C-Spanners to adjust springs but couldnt turn em without more leverage (£30) e) Called Tein UK who asked me what type of Teins I have (Track Master Type RA) and asked that I measure the spring lengths (200mm for the main spring and 50mm for helper spring) - confirmed as correct on a phone call to Tein UK. Therefore the Toyota guess was incorrect. f) Tomorrow morning the Soop is going for diagnosis at a Tein Dealer - the suspicion is now falling to the Pillow Bearing Top Mounts. Track and performance top mounts use plastic coverings as opposed to normal road designed mounts, which are made of rubber. Consequently the track type takes more abuse and may have worn requiring replacement (£30 each). Bearings can be replaced at dealer site after parts are mailed from Tein UK (in Milton Keynes). If the shocks need revalving / re-gassing then they will need posting to Tein UK. My shocks look ok - there appears to be no leaks. Lets see. Contact Tein UK and you will probably speak to Chris - mention my name (David with the Supra and Tein RAs) and he may start to wonder why his Teins are thudding. Hope this helps. Nic
Si, I hated my old Teins HA's, they were exactly the same as you describe :thumbdown The only Tein's I've heard good things about on here, are the Super Streets (please feel to correct me on this, if anyone is using a different model that you are impressed with). Personally I'd bite the bullet and swap for an alternative setup, rather than spend £200 on a rebuild that will probably not make any difference to the ride quality. Plus if you fit new springs, the total cost won't be far of buying a new set up anyway. You know where I am if I can help
DShox
The Tein shocks do get on my nerves and the super streets are certainly more user friendly and lower maintenance. The dampers and coilovers are tough and stunning on all makes but the difference comes when your running the pricey track setups. You benefit from sharper responses and perfect handling, but this is largely down to the pillow bearing top mounts which wear faster on track suspension (rubber coat on road setups which are more durable but handling is not as good). I'll be dropping mine off at Tein tomorrow or Saturday for diagnosis - replacement bearings will only be £30 each. I'll keep you posted.
