maxaerott
Hi when i was driving on the motorway a few days ago my abs light came on and the slip control light was flashing. now everytime i start the car the abs light stays on and as soon as i drive above 3000rpm the slip lights starts flashing and continues to do so while the ignition is turned off. ive had a read through some previous posts and checked the abs ecu for any fault codes but it just stays permianatly lit and the cruise light starts flashing. ive rang toyota for a abs sensor as this seemed to be a fix from the past posts but they have quoted £99.88 inc vat which seems alot. any help or advice would be appreciated. Ian C
Are you sure the ABS light stays lit and yet doesn't log a fault code? What code reading procedure are you following? Over 3000rpm eh - any main ECU fault codes stored? -Ian
maxaerott
hi ian thanks for the speed reply . ive checked the main ecu code thats fine now codes showing just constanly flashing , i followed your procedure from the previous post: 1. Turn your ignition *on* 2. In the diagnostics port, unplug the short connector from the bottom right (it's a bit of metal that joins two pins) 3. Use a jumper wire on pins TC and E1 4. Your ABS warning light will now behave like the check engine light, as in: am i right in thinking its the diagnostics port located on the dash part under the streering wheel? and what do you mean by the bit of metal joining two pins? is that in the diagnostics port in the engine bay? thanks
maxaerott
ian ignore previous post i didnt see tc and e1 in the engine bay diagnostics port at first but the code is 36 does that shed any light? thanks for your help so far
Ian C
Code 36 - Open in right front wheel or left rear speed sensor circuit. That's narrowed it down quite a bit from "who knows?" to two possible sensors Have you got a 34 or a 31 stored as well? That would narrow it down fully. Also don't immediately blame the sensor, it could be the wiring or a bad connection at a plug - a pain in the ass to check with a multimeter but a lot cheaper than buying a sensor you didn't need -Ian
maxaerott
hi ian thanks ill check for the codes but i dont think so would it show up stright after the other code. and how do i go about checking them curcuits ? anyideas? cheers matey
Ian C
Aye, that code should have been displayed before the 36. Hmm. Well, you pull the dash apart and take the wheels off, get a multimeter and the ciruit diagrams off mkiv.com and a pen and paper, and maybe a willing friend, and start measuring continuity from the ABS sensor plug to the ECU... -Ian

LeeT
when unplugged the resistance across the sensor plug should be between 900 and 1200 ohms
maxaerott
am i right in thinking the sensor is a black cylindrical unit with a piece of metal sticking out of the end ? thanks
