I`m sure this topic has already been covered but can`t find it!

I want to dump those v.ugly orange indicators in the front air intakes on my motor and move them to replace the side light inside the headlamp unit.

How easy is it?

How do i do it?

Is it MOT`able like this??

Any help with these questions would be appreciated.

Quote: from Alex Holdroyd on 4:12 pm on Feb. 4, 2002[br]Will they be bright enough???

The fitment for the side lights is a W5W bulb - if you plan to keep the original housing intact.

A 16w capless bulb is available, which is plenty bright enough....

More importantly the 5w bulbs don't have enough resistance for the flasher relay .They flash like a bulb is out.

I ran mine with 5w bulbs and inline resistors until I stumbled onto the 16w bulb

Not everywhere stocks the 16's but they are available at Halfords for about 3 quid each!!

Suck it & See ;)

If you put push fit terminals on both the  sidelight and inicator wires, then its a simple matter of swapping back at MOT time (albeit for 5 mins;))............made simpler by the fact that one bolt is enough to hold the indicator in place

My plan is to take the indicators with me just in case...........

I am impressed, so good to get thosehuge orange blobs out the way.

Looks very sweet.

I can take some pics if you want Andy.

Nice exhaust note Andy even a mile away it sounded good.

Very slick motor;)

So - me being not the sharpest tool in the box - what exactly

do you need to do?

There must be a wire with a bulb on the end going to the indicator

at the front, so, do you simply take this wire and bulb and route it

into the internals in the  headlight where the side-light is ?

or do you route the wire - but not the bulb , attach it to the

bulb mounting in the side light, and then fit a new side-light bulb as

an indicator?

do you need resistors or all that crap?

also, could you not replace the front indicators with clear ones

but for use as a sidelight???

that might get round the MOT problem?

plus you could use a completley different looking mount instead of the

same as the orange blob but in white?

does that make sense?

No resistors needed,

Just simply connect the wires from your old indicators to the sidelight bulb holder with bullet crimps

Replace sidelight bulbs with 16w items painted orange and refit to headlight units

insulate old sidelight wires as there not in use now(but may be needed in-case of MOT problems, so keep them handy!)

Thats it!! ,no sidelights but no nasty orange blobs and more air to the intercooler!

Looks sweet!!,and yes i will do a piccy if it keeps you quiet!

P.S. Matt,my car sounds very quiet unless you live backing onto a long straight by-pass!!!!(like Phil) :-))

As an intermediary option I've fitted the clear ones and on my car (which is a dark colour) they look absolutely fantastic!! But they are expensive for what they are, at about £90...they don't use the same connectors so you have to clamp the right wires. The side light integrated in them won't work but that really doesn't matter....though I think I'll get them to work in the end just for fun.
