far
For some reason my cd/dvd drive has stopped working on the PC - the disk goes in and the little light flashes but then nothing, and I cant see the disk in 'my computer' either. It was working a few days ago but doesnt work anymore - recently when I book the PC up it says 'detecting primary slave' detecting secondary slave press f4 to abort and this has never happened before (not sure if the two are linked) - any suggestions? GeordieSteve
Make your the IDE cable is attatched correctly. Test it with another IDE cable and try changing it to the other channel
Whitesupraboy2
sounds like hardware has failed...the detecting will always occur on boot up but it normally is so quick you wont see it. When it is detecting, you should see it detects your hardrive in a master slot. Do you see this? if so and it is hanging on slave, check IDE cable if not that, sounds like CD rom drive may of given up the ghost

far
thanks boys - thats great, I called the guy and he will fix it tommorow - BTW I mentioned that 'cable is fine if it detects on master ' and he said they run off two different cables (?) so it could well be the cable.
