Looking to purchase a TT

Hello all !

My first post here, thought id sign up as everyone ive spoken to recomends this place!

I want a supra! lol Im pretty sure ive made my mind up as to what model to buy but want some more advice first...

Ive spent some time now looking into it and have had reasonable quotes for both UK and Jspec cars (£1500 and £1900 respectively) so that means im not limited there....

UK spec seems tempting a) cos of toys, b) cos of more power c)cheaper insurance

but... ive heard that the majority of tuning parts are designed for Jspec (only some are limited to Jspec though) is this correct? Im not fussed about having it serviced at a main dealer so that doesnt bother me. Also if i go for a GZ then is interior spec pretty much that of UK?

Someone also told me prices vary greatly down to colour aswell? any truth to this?

I intend to make a trip down to JIC soon to have a look at some, and ive been recommended New Era Imports in cantebury, has anyone ever dealt with them? The idea of importing my own (well through a company) is appealing but it does seem more sense to get one thats been owned in the uk for a while?

Have i got things right?!!? All advice greatly appreciated

Also after the standard mod of exhaust, filter whats the next logical step?

If im buying from japan is it best to go for standard? or are the modded ones that come over ok?

Well Dave first of all, good choice in potential car.

There are a number of differences between J-spec and UK-spec as you have found out for yourself, true the UK-spec has all the toys and the GZ is pretty close to matching it. The UK-spec comes with the 326bhp engine and J-spec comes with '280' bhp (will be higher than this if you dyno-ed it probably around 290 or so).

If its a standard car and done low-average miles then not much will go wrong at all, they are very reliable cars. Beware if the car has been pre-modified, especially J-spec's as you have no history with these cars and no proof of good workmanship, be sure to get warranties etc. if you buy pre-modified cars then you have more come-back on the dealer.

I have a UK-spec 6-speed T-T and these cars are the rarest version and most sought after, I snapped my one up as soon as I saw it. You may have to wait a while to see a UK-TT for sale and these generally are more expensive than the import versions, but then again you pay less insurance for UK-spec, so its swings and roundabouts there.

J-spec T-T cars price range from £10000 to £20000 depending on the usual milage and condition etc. (there will be the odd exception to this of course).

UK-spec T-T cars price range from £12000 to £20000+, you will find that the UK-spec cars have done more milage on average as the latest UK-spec car was sold in 1996 in the UK, from new that is.

J-spec cars were still being produced in Japan up to 2000 (I think) so later imports can usually have low milage on them, but due to the build quality milage is not too much of a deciding factor.

Running costs are quite low in respect to other Supercars on the road 25mpg on steady motorway miles and 15approx when you've got your foot down.

Well I've answered a number of your questions there, I'm sure other people will answer the rest for you.

Good luck in your hunt for your Supra.
