The trouble with that Video is that guy clearly doesn't have a clue about electronics - it's not that hard to test a regulator, and even easier to test the rectifier! (he admits he's just guessing)

 

In reality 99% of Supra alternator problems will just be the electronics, ie the Regulator or the Rectifier

 

But the difference in cost of an exchange Alternator (or having yours fixed) compared to the cost of buying the parts and doing it yourself is pretty negligible !

 

So even though I'm into electronics, personally I have never bothered fixing one myself (but anyone buying a brand new one must surely be bonkers!)
