carl0s
a drinks chiller might be more what I mean. Are they reliable and quiet?
weinelm
I've had two and they are quite noisy. I had one in the kitchen and had to shut the door when in the living room next door, cos I could still hear it while watching tv. I also took one to Le Mans, but it was so hot there the insulation in the fridge just made the beer hotter!
carl0s
oh dear. I need to store something between 2c and 8c, in my bedroom.
Rob
37 dB will be farkin noisy at night. Equivalent to someone talking in a clear and loud voice I think. "HELLO I AM YOUR NEW FRIDGE" "HELLO I AM YOUR NEW FRIDGE" "HELLO I AM YOUR NEW FRIDGE" "HELLO I AM YOUR NEW FRIDGE" "HELLO I AM YOUR NEW FRIDGE" I could go on. carl0s
LOL! no I think I might end up with one of those cooler things - think they are Peltier based, rather than compressor. I have read that they can go 20c below ambient temperature. Do you have any idea what ambient room temperature would be in the average English non-masturbating batchelors bedroom? Wolf
Argos do some for £20 which I bought my kids and the noise is hardly noticable - a very low drone that has never kept any of us awake and I'm a really light sleeper! Only small though (about 6 cans) but they heat too and come with a 12v ciggy lighter plug for the car!
carl0s
sounds good! thanks. I have seen them, but was concerned that they break within 5 minutes or something. gonna check out some stores today. thanks for the tip.
SteveR
The dB scale is logarithmic, so 37dA (A is the 'weighting' - don't worry about that) is pretty quiet actually. IIRC 30dB is like a pin dropping onto a hard floor. Coversation is more like 60dB - which is actually 1000 times 'louder' than 30dB, not 2 times as people sometimes believe. Check out the table on this page for a guide to what sounds are how loud: http://www.glenbrook.k12.il.us/gbssci/phys/Class/sound/u11l2b.html Avoid 160dB
SteveR
Fortgot to say, you can get some that make NO noise whatsoever - I used to have one as a beer fridge until it broke (it was 20 years old and 2nd hand several times over!). I can't remember the terminology and I'm not a fridge expert I'm afraid, but a bit of asking about in the shops should hopefully reveal what I'm on about. I'm not sure how mine worked but it did!
