themodifiedkid
After having a few turbo boosting issues I had the torch around the engine bay and came across this. What is this part, obviously i can see the water pump but there is coolant marks behind on that section. Now the temp guage on the dash always stays in the middle whether im in slow moving traffic or booting it so hasnt seemed to have affected the cooling capabilities yet but was wandering if anyone knew what would cause this and how to remedy it/easy/expensive fix or not? and whether this would likely to get worse and maybe cause over heating? Thanks guys
Scott
Doesn't look like much to worry about to me. Clean it off and see if it comes back. If it does there are a couple of seals you can replace, not expensive or particularly difficult
themodifiedkid
Yet again I can always rely on you bud!!! I noticed it and touched it straight away and it was very slightly wet, I took it out for a spin and obviously the heat had dispersed the water but I will check again tomorrow to see if its wet again. It looks like a PITA to get to, does it mean water pump off etc to get to the seals?

It's a bit of a pain to get the waterpump off but looking at it I don't think that's where the water is coming from. It's most likely the upper elbow. All you need to do is drain some coolant out of the system (a couple of litres is plenty) and then it's a few bolts and a couple of coolant lines to take it off. There will be a gasket between the head and the elbow and I think 2 little rubber o-rings to go over the black pipe between the waterpump and the elbow. That's the first thing I would try if it was still sprinkling water
themodifiedkid
Nice one cheers mate. Yeah its definately not the water pump, its directly behind on that "upright stump" whatever thats called?? But i gotta drain the coolant of soon anyway when I finally get around to changing the turbos over!!! So will be as good a time as any.
Scott
That's the water bypass pipe. It has 2 o-rings in it as I said... 96761-24023 That's the number you need. Should be around £2.50 each 16343-46030 Get that as well, that's the gasket for the water elbow that you are taking off. Should be around £4. Swampy442
Scotts pretty much got it covered, theres a pair of O rings top and bottom of the stcak/tube/pipe. Replace, job done
