Yup, the controller powers ON the xbox, when the xbox button(on controller is pressed) but it WON'T find the xbox after that to sync
pistonbroke
If you wire the controllers in via USB, do they work? Also just read, after pressing the sync button on the xbox, press and HOLD the sync button on the controller to see if that works. There's also this

pistonbroke
Ah, I have wireless controllers too, but with the play and charge kits, so you plug them into the console to charge, and also still use them.

Swampy442
Its odd, Ive had numerous Xbox's over the years and not had a single failure. Think the cost of repair against the cost of a new console, its good value.
