Diesel Starting Woes

The car currently isn't starting at the moment. Was running fine a few weeks back until i left the car on a hill and then it now will not start. Cranks fine just not starting.

The glow plugs were changed a few months ago so i don't believe they are the issue.

I had a mate round to have a look at it for me last night. We took of the injector return and found no fuel coming out when cranking. Next we took off the pipe going to the fuel pump from the lift pump and primed it by hand to find still no fuel coming out.

I'm guessing that this primer is the problem possibly with a bit of a dodgy fuel pump as i had a search and it seems you can start one without this primer.

fuel pump goosed? Gonna go round the car at the weekend with a volt meter to check the injectors and such

Sorry for the daft questions, not too hot on the old diesel engines

Think i'm gonna need a new lift pump but wanted to make sure before i jump in and get one as they aint cheap.

I had an issue like that. Turned out to be an airlock that was alleviated by squeezing a little pump thing in the engione bay before starting.

Did that for a few days then, after a two hour m-way drive it was fine.

Not familiar with your engine, but I would slacken of the pipe to each injector in turn while someone cranks the engine and then as fuel appears nip it up and move on to the next until they are all done, if while you are doing this it fires up and runs lumpy continue doing what you are doing but avoid raising the revs until its running on all cylinders. This is assuming your engine is a mechanical pump and injectors? Just re-read your first post and you mention using a voltmeter on the injectors?? So I guess from that you have common rail and electronic injection system?
