So its a good thing then? I have never heard of coild packs. So can you run whatever plugs you want under these packs?

Soz I did mean what plugs were mentioned here. Just a techy question now - what is the benefit of a coil pack over leads and why would the vvti witch over to leads?

Terry roughly what sort of price are they?? Gonna get some 24's from the US for about £40/45.

James, I have similar sort of spec to you and use S45i's which is the same heat range as the 27's.

If anyone else wants Desno Iridium plugs, give me a shout as I can get them for a good price here.

The VVTi didn't switch to leads per say...

What did happen though is that instead of the dual coil packs they have a single on plug coil which fires two plugs at the same time (wasted spark) but due to timing fires another plug further down the engine....the only way to reach is a short lead.

So on a VVTi the coil pack on cylinder 2 fires cylinder 5's plug as well. The coil pack on cylinder 6 fires no.1 too...the pack on plug 4 fires plug 3.

This is all down to the wasted spark (VVTi only) system. And the order of which pack is connected to which plugs is down to the firing order of the cylinders.

Basically there is a coil on the EVEN plugs 2,4,6 and a short lead running to 5,3,1. Per combustion cycle (all 4 strokes) the coil double fires both cylinders.

There are only 3 ignition lines on a VVTi compared to 6 on a normal Supra with dual Coil Packs.

The coil packs give a better more reliable spark. The VVTi is wasted spark , and has 3 x Coil packs ( on plug) which fire 3 x HT leads.
