Autobox problems

Nope,

I have a sneaky feeling it is fluid levels in the box, where the rad was taken off it dropped some fluid, and even with the dipstick reading full, I think the cooler area may be empty and will need topping up... ah well that will tomorrows job

John,

Yeah, I cycled thru the gears while the engine was idling.... then topped up the fluid and went thru the gears again...

Every now and then it snatches reverse and goes back a bit but then goes back to slipping as though it is in neutral.

Obviously I didn't mean to question if you already knew that Gav :D

It's just that when it comes to troubleshooting one's own car logic goes out of the window sometimes, the subjective effect and all. I'm usually pretty hopeless when it comes to troubleshooting my own vehicles

You are using TypeIV I take it, right?

I had a similar problem a while back. On the odd occasion the car would not move after selecting reverse and sometimes other gears struggled to engage correctly too (at speed it would suddenly coast in neutral type mode until the car reached a speed that first gear would engage - almost limp home mode).

I guessed that in this case the problem was caused by a speed signal issue because after Emin had a good dig about and did a fix on the odo i have had no recurrence of these faults. :)
