I left the windows open in the house a few weeks ago & found 2 of these in the house at night. I thought they were cockroaches but after reading that & looking at the female fics this is what they were. Still a scary sight to see in your house though. Do you own a pond, or neighbours or something. that to me looks like a diving beetle, Dytiscus marginalis. quite common in Uk.. Er.. it was just on the path outside the backdoor.. not really any ponds close by that i can think of, but i am surrounded by fields..i guess it coulda flown in for a reccy lol At a guess.. it had to be around an inch long.
