Rob
The bonnet liner is lined with glass fibre, which I presume is there for heat insulation. Are there any pitfalls in removing it? i.e will the paint craze on the top of the bonnet etc?
Syed Shah
It might make it a bit noiser, as it could be there for sound insulation as well.
Phil Wall
It gets a bit hot under there so I think Mr Toyota put it their for good reason. It can't weigh very much, why remove it?
Rob
Cos I broke all the clips removing it to fit me new illuminated washer sprays. Rob
No, under the front spoiler. Will put a rear one on sometime in the future, and maybe a little one in the front air intake.

I think removing the liner will clean up the look of the enginebay when the bonnet is open. Flavio http://www.mkivsupras.co.uk/
Guest Mycroft
The Bonnet liner has a number of purposes but the one that you may not know about is the fact that when it gets very hot (around 450c) it gives off a fire retarden gas as part of its degradation, so if you do have a fire, at least you have some time to get out of the car without flames licking up the windscreen at 90mph as you are trying to brake, additionally the fixings should be chosen with care, they are designed to 'let go' of the liner in an effort to smoother the fire also, so the fireman can open the bonnet and put out the flames, if its not there he can open the bonnet and be engulfed in flames. Who'd be a fireman eh!
Flavio
Mycroft, Just curious, where do you get that kind of information? Flavio
Guest Mycroft
It is common knowledge, at least in my circle of family & friends! (One of whom helped develop the retardent) -and it is blindingly obvious, isn't it? (Edited by Mycroft at 10:23 pm on Mar. 10, 2002)
