Andrew
So far I have removed the scuff side skirt and the carpet, unbolted the kick cover. Underneath on the left is the Throttle Control and on the right the ECU (but you all knew that ) now they are bolted down, but all I want to do is to find out if I have an FCD. Do I have to remove the cover of the ECU? If so how is that done? The philip screws at the top of the unit are impossible to get to even with a 3 inch screwdriver. Just hope I don't have to unbolt the whole unit Cheers Andrew.
Guest Martin F
You should be able to see the FCD by now if you have one. Look at the look going into the ECU and see if any of the wires have been cut or spliced into at all. There's a possibility that the FCD has been slid under one of the ECU's. The best way is just to trace the loom back from the main ECU (on the right) for about 20-30cm's and look for any connections. Now there is a real slim chance that somebody has fitted an FCD inside the ECU, but it's very rare for this to be done. Is it a stock ECU ? i.e. has a big sticker on it with loads of text including 2JZ-GTE and manual or auto.
Andrew
Thanks Martin. I couldn't see any evidence of spliced wires, I didn't check underneath though, so I'll have to do that tomorrow. The ECU appears to be stock, has Toyota written on it and 2JZ-GTE, assuming that Toyota didn't make any upgraded ECUs. This is from MKIV.com. This actually looks different from mine as my box on the right is bigger than the one on the left. Unless of course this picture shows an upgraded box. I have also noticed on the site they mention a FCD system using the vaccum pipes, this appears to be near the turbos. Looks like an unsafe way of going about it, as they do mention. I'll have to check here to I guess.

Don't forget the ECU's on a yank car will be on the other side so the main ECU and the Trac one will be reversed. There is a fuel cut removal mod you can do by disconnecting the MAP sensor. But I strongly advise against this.
