i have a red leather gaiter for handbrake and gear stick.

 

car is a manual

 

looks like gear gaiter is glued, new one has little holes around the circumference (hidden when fitted)

 

any advice on a safeish way to remove the gaiters etc

Remove the gear panel, underneath you will see the gaiter is held in place by a plastic ring, the ring is heat sealed onto the gear panel. If you carefully pull on the side of the ring you will break the pins holding it in place, you will then need to glue the ring back into place.

I tired to glue the ring back in place, but it didnt work, so i just got my soldering iron out, and melted the plastic pins down so they covered the holes in the gaitor.

 

2 months later still going strong.

 

Just an option if the ring doesnt work.
