Guest Rays the roof
Out of interest, how do you chrome something? is it hard/expensive? Depends on the material but the basic process is: Remove paint using chemical stripper Remove rust (iron oxide) using burnisher Smooth over metal to remove imperfections (three step process) Polish to get mirror like finish Degrease Passivate surface Apply Copper using electrolysis Apply Nickel using electrolysis Apply Chrome using electrolysis Inspect and send to a happy customer. You can buy kits to Nickel at home, but believe me they are only 6/10.

Guest Rays the roof
I wanna chrome my entire car I am seriously considering the panels though I believe this renders the car illegal for British roads due to reflection in sunlight and at night with headlights. Anyone got a panel they can donate for me to strip polish and chrome to see how much a car would cost? Front wing would be nice.

Guest Rays the roof
Pretty sure that's painted and not plated, but similar effect. Recon it's a marmite situation.... Oh and 1 more bit I had done, which I now know is off the NA under the y-shaped intake.

marbleapple
Being a bit of a layman when it comes to mechanics, if one was to strip the visible engine bits and have them chromed, would it cause mechanical problems / make the engine less efficient/heavier? – Is this a down side to chroming is what I am really asking.
