I go to Kefalos every year and just love it, not to tourist orientated but there is bars if you want them, plus there is always Kardamena for the party goers which is a taxi/bus trip away. I like the three island boat trips they do from Kos, one being Kalymnos. It is indeed the sponge island. I go down past Kefalos to a bay called Agios Theologos when I want to have a bit of peace and quiet away from the tourists. it is probably the most beautiful part of Kos. I would suggest that one day you grab a scooter hire and take the ferry across to Kalymnos from Mastichari and have a day riding around the island. It really is stunning.
