check out crystal technology in billingshurst. I used to use them when i worked in a small IT firm. You get a lot of computer for your money. Worth giving them ring as the price often does not include the price of windows. but for £240 you can get

AM2 Athlon 64 Dual Core 5200 Processor,

4096MB(4GB) DDR2 RAM, 1000GB SATA II 7200 RPM HDD, 1GB Geforce 9500GT PCI Express Graphics card,

6x USB(2.0), Dual format Dual layer 20x DVDRW with Nero Software,

Soundblaster Comp 5.1 Sound, 10/100 Network adapter,

Midi tower USB case with 500W PSU,

Logitech Keyboard & Optical Mouse, SubWoofer Speaker System

Worth a look.

Bah I came in here expecting to type a long list suggesting dual 5870's overclocked CPU's etc :)

I think its pretty tough these days to choose an absolute stinker for basic office tasks, just ensure it has at least 2GB memory, if you can get office and if you can get windows 7 its a bonus.

If your current monitor, keyboard and mouse are fine then you can usually save a few more quid by just buying a base tower unit and using it with your existing stuff.

Post a link or two if you see something and we can check it out for you if you like.

Just Stay away from Dell Computers ;)

Any reason?

My home Dells have been solid for over 6 years (more than I can say for my mates budget computers). Also at work we use well over 200 Dells at our software house & have little or no trouble with them. I would recommend Dell to anyone.

As a techie, Dells and *cough* crappard bells are one of the most common machines I have in for repair, granted there are alot of them out there but to put it simple, they use very low quality parts. The processors are all the same and thats about where the similarity ends. Cheap motherboards, ram and PSUs tend to be their downfall. You have been a lucky man :)

Stay away from MESH too. I sent it in for a simple graphics card replacement because one was faulty, took them three moths to do it. I then get a call saying it will be with me today, wonders never cease it actually turns up! Take it out the packaging, pick it up and it literally falls in half! Fools decided not to use any screws whatsoever to secure any of the components to the case....court here we come!

If you work in Retail around PC's you can get a free full copy of Windows 7 Ultimate from Microsoft at the min by just completing their training course.

I work for them and have been getting everyone signed up this last two weeks.

Saves some dollar ; )

Dell are shite, if you aren't replacing bits after a year or 2 you are lucky. I had to replace the HDD in the works PC last year. I've never had a HDD fail on me in my puff (as I always buy decent ones).

I knew a guy that worked for Packard Bell. He rang around getting the components as cheap as he could. He warned me against them right from the off. His job was simply to ring and email around all the component manufacturers to see what he could get. Obviously buying in the 1000's so the cheapest was even cheaper for them.

Dell started off promising, they have gone down the same route as every other PC manufacturer though.

I agree, my Dells systems have been running for about 8 years without any serious faults...and still running strong as ever and I use them for all sorts. I recommend DELL to anyone ;)

Saying that I'm going for an upgrade too very very soon, I just purchased a system on ebay for my bro for £270 delivered with a pretty good spec (Intel Dual Core 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD 1GB Graphics etc etc - no OS though) , if all goes well Im gonna buy something similar just slighly better next week ;)

Just to throw more wood on the fire, this is a recent video where corsair, a leading PSU manufacturer, tested one of their PSUs against a cheap nasty thing.

Corsair have told me who brand X are. Brand X are commonly found in Dell machines.
