When Advertising Something..........

When advertising something, do you get annoyed when people text? For example i have one of my horses advertised at the moment and im getting alot of texts

Does it annoy other people or is it just me? I just feel like it curtesy to ring someone and ask them over the phone and not in TEXT SPEAK

Should i even text back  Its just not the sort of people i would want to deal with when they say 'is it posible 2 come n c her l8tr'

Maybe im just having a bad day

I'd give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe they're in a job where they shouldn't be using their phone at all so have to text to keep it quiet.

Or they could just be shy. :)

Hmmm that could be a reasonable explanation, if i didnt also have my email address as a method of contact

Im sorry but i just dont think shyness should even come into it

Maybe its just me

I'm making excuses for this person that I've never met :D but not everyone uses a computer at work.

Why not? Some people hate speaking to strangers on the phone and will do anything to avoid it.

Are these customers you have dealt with before? If so i would think that reasonable,

But for an absolute first method of contact?

Nope. Out of the blue newbies. Strange but true.

Maybe different in other trades but what if said customer does not have a PC/broken and they want to reference on a price or address?

Granted, its very lazy and tbh its a PITA to text back, hence why I call back. The main reason why I embrace the approach is it allows me to get back to them @ my conveniance :)

If it is full of tard (txt) speak then I will ignor it.

Personally I find it rude and lazy.

A few months ago we placed an ad in The Stage magazine for a temporary lead singer - And a few texts came in enquiring about the job - dear god!

Perhaps they thought they were going to text the lyrics to their prospective audience rather than sing, I dunno?

Thinking about it, the newbie texters tend to be people that want to buy a PC :D so, its normally people that do not currently have access to a PC.

They are also people that are wanting to buy an off the shelf part as such, similar situation to yourself, buying something.

Drop them a text back or give them a call :)

I would always txt an advert rather than phone, mainly cos I HATE using the phone, but also because if I'm enquiring about a few adverts I've seen I don't want to phone loads it's much easier to send loads of txts out and see how many reply. Having said that I would choose email if that was an option, only txting above phoning.

Also, I wouldn't dare use txt speak, it'd be written in proper English, but then all my txts are so maybe that's just me.

I would just ignor the text, if they are really interested they will either call or email. after all you after a sale to a person not a monkey!

Thanks, put my mind at ease now, im not even selling her, im loaning her, sounds snobby but for someone who cant even call me to enquire about her, what if she breaks a leg, id hope they wouldnt text me then

As said though, im not selling, im loaning (for non horsey people i am lending her to them) so i would have thought first impressions are vital :(

Il give them a call, but if they're chavs, il quickly pretend im going through a tunnel :D

After all you are talking about a living creature as a pose to a piece of furniture. You can tell a lot from a voice on the phone.;)
