Metalheads: Best thrash records of the 80's and 90's

I fancy getting some classic old school thrash albums.

So far I've got:

Frolic Through The Park and Act III by Death Angel.

The New Order and Practice What You Preach by Testament

Beneath The Remains and Arise by Sepultura

Looking for Sacrifice, Anacrusis, Voivod, Xentrix, Sacred Reich, Kreator. I used to own shedloads of stuff like this alongside my punk/hardcore stuff. Kept all that, sold the thrash!

What else should I be looking for? Remind me......

Good call on ActIII, listened to that quite a few times recently. Frolic Through The Park - is that Death Angel too? I always thought they were a one albulm hit band. Must go take a look to see if it's still available :)

Edit - nevermind, downloading it already :D

Animal. I knew you'd answer the call. Sabbat! OMG I've not heard them in years. Was Andy Sneap their guitarist? Awesome player.

Darryl, yeah DA had a few records out. FTTP and ActIII were their best. They've reformed recently too. I've not heard their new stuff.

Death Angel were a little bit hit & miss for me. Act III was the one that got them the most attention although 'Fall From Grace' & 'The Art of Dying' had one or two good tracks on them - 'Voracious Souls' is excellent.

There is a bit of a resurgence happening at the minute with bands like Evile, Bonded By Blood, Municipal Waste & Gama Bomb releasing some good bay area sounding thrash.

Crikey! Sabbat have only had two records out since 88 and yet they're still gigging!

I had the first one IIRC.

Y'know the whole Bay Area thing. Was I the only one who was waiting for a the perfect BA album. None of those bands ever made (IMO) the perfect album. I wanted a band to come along be be faster, heavier, crunchier, more technical, more prog and get the vocals just right. Somewhere between Chuck Billy of Testament and James Hetfield. I spent a fortune chasing the prefect record.

Yeah, I know what you mean; bands like Exodus, Overkill, Testament, Death Angel and others all had some fantastic songs, but no-one ever maaged to get a perfect blend of all that power & innovation.

I'd possibly stick my neck out and say Anihilator 'Alison Hell' is one of the all-time great thrash songs.

[edit] Oh yeah, Mordred were bloody awful, lol.

A lot of the old bands are still touring too - Exodus, Sacred Reich, Kreator, Onslaught, Testment, Sodom are all going strong. Even Lawnmower Deth have reformed to play Download (or Bloodstock, can't remember right now) this year.

Here you go Martin, a quick Thrash sampler to get you in the mood. It's a collection of the lesser known Thrash bands from the mid 80's, Acid Reign, D.A.M, Heathen and Lawnmower Death among others. Let me know if you need me to post the tracklist.

I'll be posting your cd out tomorrow afternoon, too.

You star. :) I'll just have to work out how to use RAR files in Linux and then I'm good to go.
