SupraTRD83 Posted March 10, 2009 Share Posted March 10, 2009 I no you get time off to look for work but I heard its 40% a week of your normal working hours so does that mean I can take 2 days off a week if im working a 6 week notice? well im working 4 and there paying 2 in luie will that affect my rights for reasonable time off? Mike Posted March 10, 2009 Share Posted March 10, 2009 I got made redundant a few years back and they just let us leave there and then. I think they have to give you 'some' time to look for a job, but we more or less just refused to come in and said it was our mission to get work (which it was!) - they paid us until the end of the month and we got the minimum pay out too. I was given a week off too come to termes with it lol so was the other guys then we had a meeting at the end of that week telling us we was gonners. However, when workers have been laid off, or their contracts cut short, they really ought to be walked offsite PDQ - too much risk of sabotage or theft by workers who have no reason to still be there, or do anything productive. Some businesses still believe they can get their pound of flesh before you go though Yeah right, it's 8 hours of free coffee and chat for most. Edit: I don't think they are legally allowed to block access to job-hunting websites at work, so get on that internet, on the company ticket! marc_p Posted March 10, 2009 Share Posted March 10, 2009 I was really lucky, I just recently left my job to go back to college so my boss offered to make me redundant, I got 2 months tax free wages and left at the end of the week, although I need a part time job now as I'm bored to tears sat at home doing nothing.
