far
I am using this on a desktop with usb 1.1 the connection often pauses or stops but at other times its superfast and just fine Does anyone know if this couldbe interference? Or something else? Are these USB adaptors generally regarded as reliable on a 1.1 usb interface?
MrRalphMan
I think it's hit and miss with these USB adaptors. I've had three of them, two have been flawless, but one was the same.. Dropping out etc. If it's a cheap no branded one, like two of mine were including the duff one, it might be that.
far
Its a 'Laptone' 54mbps adaptor. To test your theory I have just moved the wireless router and plugged it into the hardwired telephone socket upstairs and plugged the adaptor into an extension lead to give it some height even though the signal strength has gone up by only 10% the pausing seems to have stopped for now
Thorin
Can your router show you what other networks it can see and what channel they are on? Try changing it to a less occupied channel, 11 for example.
far
its a sky router - I am not sure how to do that tbh - will google it
MrRalphMan
Did you get this resolved in the end? The sky router will not tell you any other devices around, your laptop might. Set the channel to 11 to start to see if this helps.
far
I've moved the router upstairs now, the laptops around the house have no problems at all, the connection to the desktop is much improved but is still freezes at times. I couldnt figure out how to set the channel to 11 Im thinking about routing the RJ11 cable from the wall socket under the carpets to go into the room and hardwiring back into the desktop
