Willson
My missus bought a Sony CDX-GT23 head unit 6 months ago which I fitted to her Yaris with the adaptor connector thing. 4 months later, the thing started going mad, stopped outputting sound, only very loud pops which actually f*cked her stock speakers in a short space of time. The display was flashing on and off aswell. Anyway, got it tested at halfords, who agreed it was faulty and sent it off to be repaired. I think the one we got back was new as it didnt have a mark on it. Anyway, the replacement has just stopped working (I am not too sure of the details as I have not seen it myself). My question is - is there anything that could be wrong with the car which is causing this? I would think not, but interested if anyone has any opinions. By the way, before the first Sony was fitted, there was a Goodmans which came with the car and worked fine. I will take a reading of the voltage at the stereo, is there an accepted range which it should be within? Any help/input etc appreciated

adnanshah247
ok here are a list of the problem you might be having:- 1. the block connectors/convertors majority of the time mix up the Red (ignition power wire) with the yellow (12v Battery power) wire. the yellow one is noticabely thicker because it handles more power, who could be happening is that the headunit is sucking the constant 12v main power from the thinner red wire which is messing with the power regulator internally of the system. 2. you may have a shorted speaker, if the +&- of a speaker wire touch or short on a piece of metal then the system will go nuts by switching on and off, its a safety feature stopping it from exploding. 3. your Earth wire either on the connector might be loose and cause shorts. Other than that i cant see there being anything else wrong. p.s. i personally think its 1 because the goodmans system has no were near the same power as the sony. also i have just fitted a sony into a yaris and the voltages were all fine. Al Massey
it doesnt matter about the red and yellow wire as one is constant power and the other is ignition so it will only power with the ignition on and also have a supply to retain memory also if the unit did receive too much power than the fuse will blow as thats what it is designed to do also the earth, if it was faulty then the unit will flicker on and off which may eventually damage the unit my best guess is that a live wire is touching the unit or metal frame and causing a short somewhere behind the unit which often happens if the unit and wires is not fitted carefully

I blew up a few with dodgy earths so check that too
