Terminator
I have detected very slight play on the bolt on the NS lower steering arm knuckle, only detectable because the car was wet and I could see the meniscus moving around the base of the nut. I wonder if this has been loose for ages as I have never seen play before but always checked in the dry. Do you think a tighten up will do the trick or will I require to replace the entire arm at £235+ VAT from Mr Toyota. Arghhhhhh!
Terminator
Every time I work on these cars I am impressed by the quality of engineering. The nut was loose, I think some monkey had tightened it to torque and then backed off one face until the split pin fits in the hole in the stub. What a gimp. At 92 ftlbs exactly, the book figure, one of the nut face slots is exactly in line with the stub pin hole. Perfect engineering. Took the car out for a spin, nothing too dramatic as it was pissing down, but the steering does feel a bit more positive. I just hope no long term damage was done. My front tyres need replacing 2mm across the surface except the NS inner edge which is down to 0mm oops. I hope this was the cause of the problem. I thought it was due to my spirited entry and exits to empty roundabouts. :flame Dev
